POSITION TITLE: Economic Assistant
(Starting basic salary between QRs. 154,085 to QRs. 218,285; allowances QRs. 114,900 per annum, plus other benefits)
DUTIES:
Perform complex and analytical work on aspects of the Qatar economy and its impact on US interests, which includes but not limited to, overall trade and investment; energy; banking; finance; transportation; and general economic development.
Develop contacts in the government, business community, and academia.
Through consultation with contacts and media reports, keep Officers in the Economic and Political Section and relevant Washington agencies informed of developments in the Qatari economy. Will serve as the back-up for
other Section staff as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in economics, business
administration, marketing, or closely related field required.
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis required.
Level IV (Fluent) speaking/ reading/ writing in English and
Arabic are required.
Must have knowledge of Qatar, Gulf region, and wider
Arab economies; economic, commercial, and political institutions; international trade; economic theory and practice, and U.S. economic issues and concerns.
Knowledge of economic principles, statistics, economic models (micro and macro), energy, telecommunications, transportation, banking and insurance sectors required.
Must have the ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of contacts, and obtain information from varied sources.
Ability to relate
economic developments to political and social factors in Qatar and the Middle East and the implications for U.S. interests.
Working independently, ability to plan, organize, and execute complex research projects and to prepare precise
and accurate factual and analytic reports. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel required.
